ChromaSnack

By beep! | 22 October 2017

ChromaSnack is my colour skittles sorter. Like RetroBox for 2016, it was my 2017 project and explored the idea of using servo motors and focused more on the engineering aspect of electronics.

The main purpose of ChromaSnack is to sort coloured skittles into separate test tubes using motors to move them. I used cardboard for prototyping and was originally going to use rods of metal to support wooden shelves. However, in June, Icon and I joined NADHack, a maker group that owns a collection of advanced tools and allows other people to join and use the. Thanks to this, we learnt how to use a laser cutter, instead of sawing and drilling wood, we cut pieces of acrylic using a precise laser cutter. We also moved from planning using PowerPoint to learning to use a professional CAD tool, AutoDesk Fusion360.

Overall, though it was a lot of hard work, it was very rewarding improving my skills and I’m really pleased with the end result.

You can see it and how I made it by looking at the youtube video: https://youtu.be/BCrbIq_OSMw
